Brief Introduction to Buddhism in China
Rev. Rathanasiri, Kallanchiye
This article provides a brief history of the origin, development, decline of Buddhism in China and various schools of Chinese Buddhism and esoteric teachers that flourished in its long history. According to European historians, Mauryan emperor Asoka, the Great sent royal monk Massim Sthavira to Nepal, Bhutan and China to spread Buddhism around 265 BCE during Han Dynasty. Han Dynasty in China was deeply Confucian, and Confucianism is focused on maintaining harmony and social order in the world. Buddhism, on the other hand, emphasized entering the monastic life to seek reality. In fact Buddhism found an alliance in China's other indigenous religion like Taoism. Taoist and Buddhist meditation practices and philosophies were similar in many respects, and some Chinese took an interest in Buddhism from a Taoist perspective. However, Chinese Buddhism refers collectively to the various schools of Buddhism that have flourished in Inner China since ancient times after introduction from its original source, India. Many of these schools integrated the ideas of Confucianism, Taoism and other indigenous philosophical systems initially a foreign religion came to be a natural part of Chinese civilization, albeit with a unique character. Buddhism flourished during the beginning of the Tang Dynasty. The Kaiyuan's Three Great Enlightened Masters, Subhakarasimha, Vajrabodhi, and Amoghavajra, established Esoteric Buddhism in China from AD 716 to 720 during this period. Buddhist arts flourished, and monasteries grew rich and powerful during this period. Buddhism has played an enormous role in shaping the mindset of the Chinese people, affecting their aesthetics, politics, literature, philosophy and medicine.

Factors Affecting Student Success in GCE Ordinary Level Mathematics
Nisantha, K. A.; Munasighe, K.A.
This paper attempts to determine the factors that are contributed to the excellence performance of Ordinary Level Mathematics in several selected schools in Morawaka Educational Zone in Matara district of Southern province, Sri Lanka which had reflected the highest failure rates in Ordinary Level Mathematics over the period from 2003 to 2007. Three contributory factors of students’ performance were suggested according to the best fit logistic regression model, namely; participation for tuition classes, early preparation for examination and fathers’ education level. All factors showed a positive relationship with students’ performance. A student who participated for tuition excels four-fold higher than non participants while a well prepared student excels five-fold higher than a student who did not. The mathematical performance of students increases as the father’s level of education increases. The first two factors can be controlled and hence policy implications are noted. Authors’ suggestions are, firstly, to conduct evening classes at schools which will be benefited for students from low income categoiy and the administration of schools is necessary to take actions to give a superior pre preparation for Ordinary Level Mathematics for a higher rate of success

Networking towards Performance
Ganewatta, G. K.H.; Rathnayake, R.M
This paper is an empirical investigation of the impact of networking on the performance of small enterprises managed by women entrepreneurs in Matara district, Sri Lanka. The main objective of the study was to determine the impact of networking and to what extent factors of networking contribute to performance changes of small enterprises managed by women. A secondary objective was to find the most influencing networking factor in formulating a composite index of networking. The population of this study was all the women entrepreneurs who have registered with the Chamber of Commerce, Matara district by January 2008. The correlation results confirmed that networking is significantly correlate with performance of women entrepreneurs managing small and medium scale enterprises. Findings regarding the significance of the relationship between the studied main three variables of networking (network type, supportive role of network and network activity) and performance showed that network type and supportive role of networking were having significant positive relationship while network activity was not having significant relationship. The multiple regression models, testing the influence of networking index on performance revealed that networking is significantly influencing for performance. However all three factors of networking studied (network type, supportive role of network and network activity) were not significantly affecting for performance. Further it is interesting to note that among the six factors of supportive role of networking, the emotional support is the only significant factor for performance..
