dc.description.abstract Current study focused on the isolation, characterization and evaluation of biological activities of secondary metabolites from C. oblongifolius. Two cembrane type ditepenes; crotocembranal and crotocembraneic acid were isolated. Structures of the compounds were elucidated by analysing spectroscopic data. Cytotoxicity, cancer chemopreventive properties antibacterial activities were tested. Both compounds showed mild cytotoxicity towards the cancer cell line tested. Crotocembraneic acid exhibited minimum inhibitory concentration of (MIC) of 25 ug/ml for Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra and 100 ug/ml for Staphylococcus epidermidis. Crotocembranal was inactive as an anti-infective agent. en_US
