Pass words: Regional Economy, earthenware (Clay) industry, rural economy, tradition
An area which specifically contributes towards the regional economy by way of production
and marketing could be recognized as an economic division.
Clay pot industry in Molagoda Grama Niladhai Division in the Rambukkana Divisional
Secretariat Division in Kegalle District is also an area specifically involved in the clay pot
(earthenware) industry as a rural economy.
The development of rural economy is the development of the condition of rural life.
According to the findings of the United Nation Organization of 1962, the aim of rural
development should be the contribution of the community through self-effort strategies for
the development of the village. It is expected to generate employment opportunities and
enhance the means of income of the rural areas through this arrangement.
For this purpose, 50 workers in the clay pot industry were selected as random sampling
out of 200 workers in the Grama Niladhai Division 13 B of Molagoda .Gathering of
preliminary data was done by presentation of questionnaire and discussions and secondary
data were also collected through secondary sources.
Several conclusions could be arrived at through this study. There is a clear
advancement of increasing employment opportunities and the economy of village which
has caused a vast development in the economy of the area. But as at to day there is no
speedy development in the industry. Modern technological aspects have enriched the
industry and it could be observed that people have got involved in the clay pot industry as
an employment source and driving apart the traditional cast system.
Finally, it could be asserted that the clay pot industry of Molagoda area has left room
for the development of the rural economy of the area by way of providing employment
opportunities and enhancing the life styles of the community directly and indirectly. |
