dc.description.abstract Fishery industry is a major economic activity of the world. It is apparent that traditional accessories as well as modern technological accessories are used in harvesting fish resources. Modern technological methods are used in fishery industry in developed countries while very old primary Fad methods ( Panna method) are dominated in undeveloped countries. However, Sri Lankan fishermen use both methods in fishery industry. Specially “ Wei Dewera fad Method and Net Dewara fad Method are very popular in Sri Lanka. Karamal nets, Covering nets , Drager nets and Hanging nets are the Net Dewara Panna Methods. Athyoth Pannaya ,Marawal Pannaya, Bilipithi pannaya, and Pundu pannaya are included into the Wei panna methods. Process of catching fish using all these fad methods is identified by this study. Information for this study was gathered by means of questionaire survey, interview with fishermen, field observations carried out in Devinuwara AGA division of the Matara District. en_US
