Pot culture experiment was conducted under field conditions to evaluate the
efficacy of pod extracts of Capsicum annum var fasciculatum, Capsicum frutescens
var conid and Capsicum frutescens var longum in the control of Black bean aphid
(Aphis fabae Scop.), a pest of Long bean (Vigna sesquipedalis L), 25 ml of extracts
were prepared by using 12.5 g of Capsicum annum var fasciculatum, 15 g of
Capsicum frutescens var conid and 18.75 g of Capsicum frutescens var longum.
These extracts and two types of controls were given to Long bean plants each with
50 aphids. Then the density of aphid population was estimated at 48 hrs interval
period i.e. 1M day, 3lli day and 51,1 day after spraying. Population density of aphids
on plants treated with three treatments was significantly different from the control
experiments (P < 0.05). Validity of three Capsicum varieties as botanical pesticides
are being identified further. |
