<description>Impact of Supply Chain Competencies onthe Performance of Supply Chain Professionals: A Conceptual Model
Asghar, M.I.; Ilyas, S.
Globalization, trending business environments and advancements in technologies, have changed today‟s supply chains (SC) significantly and consequently, SC is now delivering superior operational performance. Highly competent, skilled and qualified professionals are required by high performing supply chains to perform transactional, clerical, strategic and planning tasks. Literature shows that those supply chain professionals contribute towards better supply chain performance, who possess a certain level of supply chain-related competencies. These competencies are comprised of a professional's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Literature and theory in the context of competencies in supply chain management (SCM) are still in their infancy so this research paper is an attempt to highlight the key supply chain competencies in this modern age where supply chain is way more complex, and to measure their impact on the supply chain professional‟s (supply chain manager‟s) performance. This paper presents a conceptual model that will guide the supply chain organizations to the acquisition of competent SC professionals. The study will give a conceptual model to the supply chain professional that will help industry professionals to improve their performance by identifying, gaining and improving certain supply chain competencies (i.e. knowledge, skills &amp; abilities (KSA)).

<title>Socially Responsible Supplier Development Practices An Institutional Theory Approach</title>
<link>http://ir.lib.ruh.ac.lk/handle/iruor/296</link>
<description>Socially Responsible Supplier Development Practices An Institutional Theory Approach
Rasheed, S.; Saeed, A.
The purpose of this paper is to study the factors that force suppliers to become socially responsible while taking into consideration the "institutional theory" as a lens. The methodology used for studying this phenomenon was an exploratory case study with inductive data analysis of the organization in the context of Pakistan. It is related to the outcome that can guide to understand, what specific factors motivate the suppliers to become socially responsible? The study also entails the ability for the society to know what factors can put pressure on suppliers to become socially responsible so that they can use these pressures to get quality products and also force suppliers to fulfill corporate social responsibility by helping the society. Since much research has been done from the buyer's perspective, while nothing has been done about the supplier‟s perspective so this study will give a 360-degree view of what factors drive adopting socially responsible practices. One thing is clear that institutional pressures do play a critical role in driving suppliers to become socially responsible. But the degree to which these pressures play their role varies at times. The managerial implication is that managers may better control the implementation of organizational practices for improving economic and social performance.

<link>http://ir.lib.ruh.ac.lk/handle/iruor/295</link>
<description>Supply Chain Risk Assessment of SriLankan Apparel Manufacturing Organisations
Manthrirathna, M.A.K.S.; Rajini, D.; Gowsiga, M.
Supply Chain (SC) is a process, which passes variety of materials and large amount of information among its several stages. In viewing of modern business environment, SC risks have a noteworthy impact on the continued operations of any business. Despite the risks and uncertainties, the existence of a business seeks to achieve profits and therefore managing those risks has become a key requirement for that. Even though giving prior attention to the risks associated with SC is very important for an apparel manufacturing organisation, the research regarding this concept has received less attention in global context as well as in the Sri Lankan context. Therefore, this paper aims to conduct a Risk Assessment (RA) and investigate the most critical SC risks in Sri Lankan Apparel manufacturing organisations. This study was approached through a multiple case study research method by carrying out five case studies within the apparel industry. The required data was collected through semi- structured interviews and the data analysis was carried out using content analysis together with risk matrix. A comprehensive literature review identified forty SC risk factors of which the level of criticality was measured through case studies. As the findings revealed, the most critical risk factors faced by Sri Lankan Apparel manufacturing organisations are quality issues, maintenance failures, forecasting errors, technological issues, inadequate labour force, performance issues in labour and machinery, health and safety issues of employees, system breakdowns, communication issues, information mismatch, oil crisis, spread of diseases and delivery delays. These supply chain risks should be identified and handled properly in order to enhance supply chain risk management and thus, to improve the business processes in apparel manufacturing organisation without any interruption.

<title>Expected versus Perceived: Service Quality Gap among International Passengers</title>
<link>http://ir.lib.ruh.ac.lk/handle/iruor/294</link>
<description>Expected versus Perceived: Service Quality Gap among International Passengers
Wickramaratne, C.; Karunaratna, A.C.
Airports are powerful engines of many economies, and over millions of international passengers arrive at and depart from major airports daily. Accordingly, airports play a significant role as the most important hub in the world, connecting people from all over the world that contribute massively for the development of each country, also providing many countries an opportunity to earn a greater amount of foreign income by supplying utilities to international passengers. This study was conducted to evaluate the expected level of service quality with the perceived level of service quality of the international passengers who use the airport of Sri Lanka. Convenience sampling technique was adopted, and the data was collected from 205 international passengers from the regions of Europe, USA, Australia, New Zealand and Asia, using a structured questionnaire. The independent sample t-test was employed for the major purpose of evaluating the difference between the expected level of service quality and the perceived level of service quality in airports. The results of the study show a significant difference between the expected and the perceived level of service quality. Thus, it is concluded that the expected level of service quality of all the three components, namely pre-flight services, inside services and post-flight services, among international passengers, is relatively high compared to their perceived level of service quality.
