A very rapid exploitation and utilization of the
shallow groundwater resources of the North Central,
North Western and North Eastern regions (Figure 1)
has been taking place over the last twenty years. This
rapid development has, however, taken place
without an adequate understanding of the real nature
and behaviour of these shallow, naturally occurring
groundwater bodies or aquifers.
