Abstract:
Congenital Giant Nevoid Hypertrichosis in a Sri Lankan Newborn - Nevoid hypertrichosis is a rare disorder of hair growth, manifesting as localized growth of terminal hair on normally pigmented skin. Solitary and circumscribed patches are usually being reported and the progression of the disorder can be either persist to adult life or spontaneously resolve. Herein we report the partial evolution of giant congenital unilateral nevoid hypertrichosis along blastoid distribution involving buttock and thigh over two years’ duration. Nevoid hypertrichosis, has benign course and usually not associated systemic manifestations. The usual site of localized involvement is sacrum which can be associated with spina bifida. It is reflected as disorder of mosaicism, which explains the blashkoid distribution. However, in literature sparse data regarding evolution of nevoid hypertrichosis. Although, localized nevoid hypertrichosis is pathologically benign the abnormal site and outsized extension of the lesion are discernible, therefore it is important to appreciate the evolution to alleviate parental and physician concerns.
