dc.description.abstract This paper presents the design and implementation of an information retrieval system for heritage sites. Majority of people who visit Sri Lanka are interested in heritage sites. One of the problems they face is lack of access to reliable historic information.’selfappointed’ tour guides who roam around the heritage sites do not possess factual information about these sites. As such, there is a great need for a source of reliable information. This project fulfills that requirement.The developed system uses Google Maps Application Programming Interface (API), HyperText Markup Language (HTML), Bootstrap for Cascaded Style Sheet (CSS), JavaScript, SQLite, HyperText Pre-Processor (PHP), Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) and JavaScript' Object Notation (JSON).This can be used as an information retrieval system which can be applied for any heritage site, the design was tested using the world heritage site Galle in Sri Lanka. en_US
